On the brand's own origins page, the line begins in 1890, when Kirk Karaguezian's grandfather opened a small workshop showcasing hand-engraved jewelry inspired by the Armenian carving tradition. The founder was killed in the Armenian Genocide; his son Artin re-opened the workshop in Beirut.
The family immigrated to America in 1983, during the Lebanese civil war, and in 2000 the family's daughters Angela and Grace renamed the firm Kirk Kara; Angela now leads it as CEO.
